Chapman's orchid

by KategoricalKarnivore » Sun Jul 30, 2017 3:50 am

Today I went on a guided wildflower walk through the Watson Native Plant Preserve. It was lead by Joe Liggio the author of "Wild Orchids of Texas" https://www.amazon.com/Orchids-Texas-Co ... 0292747128 We saw many different flowers but the best by far were the Platanthera chapmanii, Chapman's orchid. These are quite rare and Joe said this is probably the largest population in the world. Here are a few shots I took today of these beautiful wild orchids.

A garden to walk in and immensity to dream in--what more could he ask? A few flowers at his feet and above him the stars.

Those are very pretty. I have never seen this orchid before. I'm totally jealous, we don't have any bogs to look at here. Thank you for sharing.
