Thanks immemsely for the tips. After I brought the plants in that night and found dozens (who know how many I didnt see) climbing up the pot, I knew I had a serious problem. I love these plants and it's very frustrating to continously see even new traps blacken. Weird thing is, I've never really needed pest control on my tomatoes in years past.

I think I might have some aphids on my flytrap. There's a few other holes on two other leaves. I thought they were leftovers at first. They almost look like larvae, I'm not sure. I have noticed that my flytraps growth just seems to have halted overall.

Would Ortho Max be safe to use?

That looks like catarpillar/worm poop to me, which would be consistent with the chewed holes. It looks like a worm may have crawled its way into the trap and then chewed its way out. Aphids don't make holes. I don't know about Ortho Max. Is it the one where the active ingredient is Chlorothalonil?

That makes sense, the trap with the hole in it was set off and it hasn't opened back up. I submerged the leaves in water for 5 minutes yesterday, hopefully it will kill off anything else that might be there. I will have to check the ingredients in the pesticide.

I'm noticing more bite marks and what looks like bug poop. : / I appreciate any tips.

Well, I pulled this guy off the trap. I'll be keeping an eye on the plant the next few days.

Had a terrible fungus gnat infestation. Traps caught several, but barely put a dent in the population. Neem oil did a great job, while Dewey here is doing a fantastic job with the rest.

Purchased 2 months ago and it's easily tripled in size, likely due to the steady meals. It's becoming my favorite sundew.

Flea beetle attack!

Never see the damn things on the plant, they're hidden in the peat and are only visible when the plant is watered.

Gonna blast them with Pravado.

Is there any evidence to suggest that particular cultivars may attract pests more than others? I have a 'typical' which is kept under exactly the same conditions as my other VFTs, but seems to attract many more parasites. It is currently the largest of my plants, but not by a huge margin. I can't think of any other reason besides its size why it would be getting attacked so often.

I’m having trouble identifying these and was wondering if anyone can shed some light. There is no damage to my flytrap so far, and they’re extremely small and hard to photograph. Any suggestions would be helpful

They look kind of like aphids to me. Do they move around really slow?

Yes they are rather slow but disappear quite quickly if you touch them!

Hi, I'm a newbie plant mom located in Ireland and I've just noticed a mealy bug on my venus fly trap, and another much smaller one almost like a fleck of dust on the dish tray when I was watering the plant so I think they might have burrowed into the soil.

I saw that provado is a pesticide I can get my hands on where I live but I'm not exactly sure how it works as a contact pesticide? Does it only work if I spray it directly on the mealy bug or would it work if it's absorbed into the soil to kill the ones that may have burrowed into the soil which I suspect is the case for my plant? When I researched about pest control for carnivorous plant I found that orthene/acephate is a good systemic pesticide, is there an alternative that is available in Ireland that I can start using? I'd much rather take a preventative approach after ridding my plant of the mealy bugs.

I usually keep my VFT out on the fire escape, since its summer time now and it gets lots of sun out there.
Today, I saw what looked like a june beetle? When I turned the pot to get a closer look at it, it burrowed under the soil. Not sure how long it's been there, I'd assume no longer than today, maybe yesterday. I managed to dig it out and remove it. Should I be worried? I read that they can lay eggs and hatch larva in grass and eat roots. Is there a way I can treat for this in case, without hurting the VFT roots?
EDIT: I should note that I live in southern New England, usa if that helps.
