My VFT has a flower stalk that is over 10" long and the buds look like they could open any day.
Is it too late to cut the stalk and plant it in the peat moss next to the plant it came from?
Should I let it flower and collect the seeds to plant next spring?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I've never let a flower stalk go that long and then cut it unless I've used it in tissue culture. Judging by my experiences in tissue culture, I'd say it's not too late to cut it and use it for propagation. Though I can't guarantee it because I've never done it that late nor have I ever read of anyone doing it that late. Usually 2" to 3" high is the optimal height for using a flower stalk to get a new plant.

If you decide to let it flower, don't wait to sow the seeds until next spring because you will compromise their viability. Dionaea seeds are best sown as soon as they're harvested.

I will leave it to flower and try my hand at sowing the seeds.
Thanks Matt for the great advice.

I wonder if you cut it off when it is bigger you will get a bigger plant out of the flower.
When my plant starts to grow a flower stalk next year Im going to let it get around 5 to 6 inches and test it out.
