now its time to prepare the potting mix, i am going to use 50/50 peat sand, but i have no idea what kind of sand would be safe to use. i asked this question once before but i cant find the topic anymore :? .

I use Pool Filter sand (pure silica Sand) # 20 That's what ever one told me and I have had no problems after I wash it.

I have brekerszand too and i think it is safe to use for carnivorous plants, but i think you can test it by adding some vinegar and see what happens

I have never heard of that sand before. The #20 is the size. It is the bigger size grains. I have heard that you can use sand blasting sand as well if you can find it.
The savage garden said you can you use washed play sand as well. I know there have been some mixed emotions on useing play sand. I never wanted to take the chance. I read that some nurseries have washed silica sand.

brekerzand (dutch name :p) is 1-2mm in size, the biggest i could find. also tried to look for some sand blasting sand but couldnt find any, and the play sand was smaller as 1mm so im afraid that it wouldnt drain or drain really poorly.

so i'll give the brekerzand a try. thank you for your help

im just going to give brekerzand a try, and if it works for you im pretty sure it should also work for me :p

but about the vinegar, i used it on some stones before and saw those bubbles which ment they were bad for carnivorous plants. but how do i use it on sand? seems to me that with such a small surface area there will hardly show any bubbles :?

I think you just put the sand in the vinegar, that way you should see something if it isnt safe to use
