So I think I have lfsm culture. Strangely enough it started growing from my B52 plant with New Zealand moss I got from FTS. It is a very small piece and I have it under artificial fluorescent lighting. My question, it possible that dry moss randomly started growing again? I thought dried lfsm moss was dead completely?

There are often living spores in dried Sphagnum moss. Under correct conditions, they will begin to grow.

Sometimes the NZ LFS moss we get is fresh off the boat and hasn't completely dried out yet. In those cases, the moss isn't completely dead and will sometimes begin growing again. However, there is another kind of moss that commonly appears on top of the NZ LFS and that's carpet moss. In the beginning they can look fairly similar. If you were to post a photo, we could probably help identify whether it's sphagnum or carpet moss.

This is what I see in my pot, is it carpet or growing LFS moss? The first picture did not show the moss under the trap. The second the moss turning green.

Looks like algae to me.

It is hard to tell in the photo, but I have often had moss green-up like that before and then start growing new heads.

Okay took this picture outside to try to get a better picture and also took a photo of more of the pot!

Dang I was hoping that was live sphagnum I will have to pick some up then want to start growing that as well! Thanks everyone for your help.

Hmm, perhaps then I just get algae around the same time that my moss revives for whatever reason.
