It's been a while since I posted. I have extra sphagnum moss and not enough space so I am selling sampler set (to fit in small USPS box) for a flat $16 (already includes shipping and handling).
They will be three different species: half cup of red (still in green form, takes 4-6 months to turn red), half cup of soft green, half a cup of stiff green. These will be enough to start your own colony.
Put your name on the list and I will do a random number generator to select SEVEN-TEN people by 11:59pm EST Friday the 25th, I plan on shipping these out by Tuesday the 29th at the latest. You must be able to pay by PayPal, it's the only thing I'll accept.
*** TRADE: I am looking to trade a pink Pinguiculas/a Darlingtonia/Jaws Venus Fly trap, so if you have those, I am willing to trade!
INSTRUCTIONS TO GROW SPHAGNUM OPTIMALLY once you get it (in my experience):
First, rinse strands in distilled water.
Layer a substrate of dead long fiber sphagnum moss. (I don't add peat because I like my sphagnum clean)
Lay it flat, and close to each other.
Bright diffused light. The brighter, the better.
Closed container for high humidity. I use saran wrap to cover my containers (or with holes at the top). It does need an air flow or there will me mold (as with most anything that doesn't get air movement).
Distilled water just barely above the substrate level, and flood (above sphagnum) once a week. Spray with water twice a day.
Leave it be, and you'll have more in a few months.
