I just had a little emergency and I need some LFS. However, the only stuff availabe right now is some that I have in an empty orchid pot. I watered this with tap water, though, so would it be safe for CPs if I soak it in distilled water?

Really the only way to tell is with a TDS meter. They're cheap from Amazon or the like.

Soak the moss, drain, then soak again and test.

I'd say that if it's that urgent, go to a nursery or a home improvement store and get some to be safe. But if this is just a typical VFT or something, then go ahead and soak, drain, and soak again before using. Remember that you will still want to flush the pot a few more times while the plant is growing.
