I would think red sphagnum must would be a popular item to sell. Does anyone know why it's rare to find it to buy online?

I understand it's probably rare to have it, but I would think that once you start propagating it, you can grow it and sell it pretty fast.

Here are a couple sites that sale red sphagnum. Its not always in stock but you could always contact the seller and ask about it. Still pretty expensive.
Meadowview Biological Center
Carnivorous plant nursery CP9022 temporary unavailable.

This places has a picture of red sphagnum but I don't know if that's what they are selling. Nothing in the description mention red sphagnum, so if you are interested my advice would be to contact the seller and ask.

Hi again,

Just wanted to thank jwbates26 for referring me to Meadowview Biological Center.

I wanted to share some of the "red and purple" sphagnum moss I got. It was a bit dirty with bark and other tiny leaves when I got it (which I got A LOT for a gallon sized bag), so I had to go through and clean every strand before placing them in my pots. The photo quality doesn't do the real thing justice; it's pretty red/purple. Hopefully they will grow thicker as well. Here's what they look like:

Yours looks lovely! I bought some from them as well! As you said, it was a bit dirty but I feel like I received a large amount of live moss. Mine has started to grow. I will try to snap a picture tonight.

Edit:

I added a couple of photos of the red sphagnum moss that I purchased from the Meadowview Biological Center.

Hey guys, I have a lot of red sphagnum growing in the greenhouse and just took some for myself to propogate. If anyone is desperate for some I may be able to ask for a chunk and I don't need to be paid haha just pay for the shipping

Sure send me a DM and I'll figure it out for you :).

And yeah I've noticed red sphagnum can be inconsistent. On the bright side the greenhouse is pretty heavily shaded so it's a good sign that the red is still showing in the sphagnum there
