Ok so I have been using distilled water on my VFT and Sarrs and I have TONS of those clear gallon jugs everywhere. They're EVERYWHERE. It seems like the more I throw out the more just appear in random places. So I'm tired of the jugs and don't have enough for a RO system yet. So my question is: can I use my local municipal tap water? I looked online at Zero Water website and they have a map of TDS in local water supplies and it rates my TDS at 38ppm. I'm still rather scared to use it. Would it be ok to use tap water with a TDS of 38ppm or should I be distrustful of the zero water website analysis?

You should buy a tds meter online at ebay. Its around $10 usd if I remembered. Test your water personally.

If using tap water dont forget about letting it stand to clear chlorine.
Still better if possible to use rain water though.

This, definitely. While they're pretty spot on for my area, (I have a ZeroWater pitcher I use,) there are factors that could change the tds between your treatment place and your tap. :)

I have air condition running every night and the condensation water I collect them as they are below 10ppm and very clean. You can do that too. Just make sure you did not service your aircon recently as sometime they uee chemical to was the blades of the unit.

I took your advice as we have one if those outdoor unit thingies and it puts out gallons on a hot day so even tho it's work I have a pretty good source if water now :p
