Today, i bought a bale of peat moss. they did not have sphagnum peat moss. I presumed they were the same. Am i right?

While there are many types of peat, not all of them sphagnum based, usually if it says peat moss it's spagnum peat moss.

The other peats are typically sedge/grass based and wouldn't call themselves peat moss.

Do you have a picture of what you got or a link to the product page?

Can't tell for sure from the picture. But Irish peat moss should very well be sphagnum based since it's from Ireland.
