the top of my soil is getting really dry and i dont know why. i noticed this when the tiny green plants started turning a little bit yellow. my plant is in a 4-5" black pot with all peat moss.
what can i do so that water reaches the top?

If you don't like top watering, try spraying the top with a spray bottle. Or you could get some sort of moss to keep the top part damp. I've done both of these and they work pretty well in keeping the moister.

I've noticed that the bigger the pot, the easier watering is. I have a rectangular plastic flower pot meant to hang on a window. I flood it from the top once every 3-5 days. It's enough and I don't need to keep a catch tray below.

I'm also trying a ceramic pot with no drainage holes. So far the VFTs are doing well in it. I got the inspiration from Bob Ziemer.

I'm not getting any in my pots. Keep the media drier. Try a 50:50 sand:peat mix instead.

Try covering the top with some silica sand like Aaron mentioned. I use moss from my backyard.
