I bought some long fibered moss that was dried from home depot and i tried so hard to germinate it but then i found a venus fly trap planted in soaked sphagnum which had a few spots of green in it. After transplanting the plant i took the moss and out it on top of some carnivorous plant siol with the dome and alot of water.

heres some sphag thats been growing in this pot since last year sometime. I just keep it wet and leave it in standing water outdoors. The water level stays below the sphag at all times. Its very hot and humid here and it grows fine in my bog garden without so much moisture.

Ive been harvesting it so it doesnt look that great but when left to grow untouched it makes a nice green fluffy carpet.

I grow my sphag moss in my green house, in reasonably controlled conditions, sphag moss is a cool growing plant likes lots of fresh rain water and sun , it like to grow on top of its self , so you usually need a good size lump to start with and i grown mine on weed mat on my nep benches , keeps the nep pots cooler and the pitcher love to sit in the moss and grow , it likes weak fertiliser as well use one with no urea in it and not nitrate as the nitrogen source , it likes misted and watering a lot , need high humidity as well ,bit of a art to growing it in large amounts , , if you have sphag moss bogs some where near you , go look who it grow , take reading of water TDS, PH leves , sun light , shade , rain fall in the area , get to know what it likes and do the same in your grow area , is the only way to do it correctly !
