Getting a mystery box and I want to make sure I have the major fundamentals down. What is the proper way to water a VFT I know it is a newbie question but how do you water the plant. Do people always use a tray method or directly watering. Please reply.

Either the tray method or top-watering is fine, but many people prefer the tray method.

Either way is fine. The key really is to keep the soil moist, not too wet and never dry. However you want to achieve that is fine.

When you first receive the plants and pot them up, it's best to keep them a bit wetter until they've become established. If you notice that the top of the soil is drying out, go ahead and water from the top. Once the plants have a chance to put down some roots, it's OK if the top of the soil becomes completely dry as long as it's moist beneath the surface where the roots can access it. My largest mother pots are often dry on top.
