Hey all,

  • Perhaps a dewy pine or rainbow plant
  • A nice nepenthes or cephalotus (to go in a tropical greenhouse)

Thanks, Dionae. It's all in the fertilizer! Feeding them is an art, though. You have to make sure the dilution is pretty exact, and that you don't fertilize too often. Otherwise, the plants are poisoned. They can't leech any extra nutrients into the soil, after all.

The african violet just seems to really like my kitchen. My friend who owns a garden store gets beautiful ones in all the time.

Ok!

One of the Fuegos is gone, and so is the Rosita and the Conehead!

The only tillandsias left are a Xerographica and the Peanut (which is still earmarked for someone).

Come on, people! Great plants to be had for great plants for me to have!

It might be totally inappropriate to ask you about how you care for your african violets, but im going to do it anyway. How often do you water them? Because I cant seem to get mine to flower, entire plant is leaves :(

The classic way to water them is to get an old nylon stocking and run it up the sides of the pot, then dangle the end out the bottom to act as a wick. You then fill a tray with water and place the violet in it. Honestly, I skip the whole nylon bit. I put the pot directly in a tray of water, about an inch, whenever the soil stops feeling moist to the touch. Damp, but not moist, is when I refill the saucer.

Other than that, keep them out of direct sunlight, and make absolutely sure not to get water on the leaves. If you want them to grow into a show-worthy dense rosette, you can grow them under perfectly level full-spectrum lamps.

Either a drosera, sarrencia or (if you feel particularly charitable) a cephalotus. I can offer a beautiful rosetted succulent which gives hummingbird-attracting flowers, the xerographica, or a butzii in addition, if that tempts you.

Ok! The Peanut and the last Fuego are gone! Anybody want to get in on the xerographica or one of the succulents? The madagascar palm is cool. It's a succulent which looks like a miniature palm tree!
