I know a lot of people on the forum are really into photography, so I figured I'd share this for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Pretty cool.

That's true. I put my name on the reservation list right when the company announced themselves, but I definitely didn't give them a credit card. They say they're doing some "usability testers," so maybe I'll get lucky and they'll give me one to play with. We'll see.

Wow. Thanks for the link. Very interesting, the idea of capturing not only the intensity of light striking a sensor through the lens, and then interpolating the color, but also capturing the vector data to include in the digital file, so that focus can be changed afterward. Amazing. I wonder if the depth of field can be changed also, or just the focal plane itself. I mean, for any particular focal plane, I wonder if one can adjust the digital photo for greater or lesser depth of field.

Very interesting stuff, David! Thanks! My fear is that the software necessary to interpret and edit the digital files that the camera produces will only work on a Microsoft operating system (and I have used Linux exclusively now for 14 years). :D

Well, hopefully it wouldn't take someone long to write something. I think generally people that run linux also like new tech, so it might not be loo long a wait.

As for the depth of field question, I don't know, but I don't see why the software couldn't use certain focal distances for part of the image and other focal distances for other parts, so it's just a matter of automating that? We'll see I guess.

Well, my dad is maybe more into photography than me, and when they put these up for grabs a couple months ago, he pulled the trigger.
Actually Steve, at first they will only work on a Mac, and then expand to PC late this year.
But hey, nothing a good ol' hacked netbook with iOS can't do, right? ;)
