Hi everyone, I once again turn to you and ask for help as this website has been extremely helpful so far. I have been able to grow a tiny VFT from seed and up until now everything seemed to be going so well. To my horror I found that some of the leaves had turned black at the leaves' ends. Could that have been caused by watering the plant from top with a water sprayer? Or could this be because of too much sunlight resulting in burnt leaves? I'll welcome all suggestions. Thanks.

I water some of mine from the top and have no problem its not sun burn either

Remember the traps open for 3-5 times then turn black you can leave them but if you wish for cosmetic reason you can trim the dead trap but leave any green

Also when they catch there prey some traps may die back (or go black) Sounds like your plant is outside so you don't know how many times the traps have open and closed ?

If you spray the plant with water and its in very strong light the leafs would go a red colour not black

tbh i wouldn't worry about this

lastly if it was later in the year i would have told you your plant is going into its winter dormancy but its not

but stick up a photo or 2 of the plant in question

Hey Hooofi, I think it could be several different things : it could be that your plant received more sun than it can handle being a baby, maybe you moved it or it was a really hot day. It could also be that you top watered it on a sunny day and the water on the leaves burned them. Also, if your plant has been doing well and has several traps that have been open and catching prey ,then it could be the natural behavior of healthy VFTs. Traps typically digest insects 3 or 4 times then die off. If your plant is still producing new health sprouts from the rhizome then you should be fine. Pictures would help the forum to diagnose the problem for you

Yep, gotta have some pics and tell us exactly what you have been doing to your plant.
Need a history and photo as it could be any one of the things you mentioned.

Too much water is the number one cause of leaves turning black.

Number 2 is lack of light.

Number 3 is too much hot sun (esp after the plant has been potted and is in repotting shock)

Hi guys, thanks for all the info. I should have guessed that it's the water. I remember watering tha plant on a really hot day and just a few second after I did it, I realized I shouldn't have. It's the most logical explanation. Since the plant is so tiny that I can barely see it, I don't currantly possess a camera to take such a detailed photo. But I'll do soon though, so maybe tomorrow or the day after. Thank you for all of your suggestions and thoughts.
