I was just wondering how many people actually name their plants. If they name all of them, or only a few. If you do in fact name your plants... how do you come up with names for them? I'd love to hear some of your names and how you got them.

examples:

Sarracenia Purpurea - Uncle Jack
The purple pitcher was my first pitcher plant, so I named it after the first baseball pitcher that came to mind. My Uncle Jack.

Dionaea Muscipula "Czech Giant" - Vladimir
While Czech isn't Russian, it reminded my girlfriend and I of Russia for some reason... we went with the first Russian name we could think of.

Dionaea Muscipula "Jaws" - Bruce
The name of the shark in the movie Jaws

Drosera Capensis Alba - Jessica
Named for Jessica Alba

Our Jaws share the same name. lol

One of my Maroon Monsters' names is Barney, like the big purple childrens dinosaur.
My larger N. Ventrata's name is Victreebel, and the smaller is Weepinbel.
My B52's name is Rock Lobster.

Wow... you really are a nerd xD. I'm glad someone else names their plants based off characteristics and not just "John" because its the first name that came to mind.

Yeah.. my BF actually helped me name the Maroon Monster. He kept calling it the Purple Monster which made me think of Barney (watched a lot as a kid).. and HECK YEAH! Why not name my neps after a Pokemon that was based off them!

I named most of my plants after Hetalia characters.

George was named after something in Looney Toons. You get a cookie if you can guess what.

My sundew is the spare, so it's name is Cedric. And I want a Cobra Lily to name Snape.

I need to name some of my plants after Pokemon.

I name my plants depending on the characteristics of the plant

For example:

VFT Scarlet Maroon Iris:
Scarlet= word for bright red color
Maroon= a bloody more red color
Iris= word in latin for rainbow, the mix of red, strong maroon, green, and parts of yellow.

VFT Long Maroon Monster:
Long= long leaf
Maroon=a bloody more red color
Monster= the combination of strong dark colors makes it look like a monster! :)
