I was looking at this listing at the 70 watt tubes at the bottom of the list.
Why does the 4000K one give more lumens than the 6500K one ?
I would have thought it would be the reverse ?

I was under the impression a higher colour temp meant more lumens.

The color temperature is related to the frequencies of light included, from infrared at the low-frequency side, through red, and on up to blue, violet and ultraviolet on the high-frequency side.

However, both red and blue light, at opposite ends of the spectrum, can be produced in lesser or greater intensity, and lumens is the measure of relative intensity of light to the human eye. So a low Kelvin-degree light can (although any particular one may not) produce a higher intensity light than a higher Kelvin-degree light might. Imagine a very bright red light, and a very dim mid-spectrum (daylight colored) light. :)

Others may give more technical answers. My expertise in the subject is limited to a casual layman's understanding.

Thanks for that, i think i got the idea now from your paragraph.
So even though that 4000K light is more lumens it will comprise of more red light than blue.

Doing a google brings up all sorts of different "essays" and i found it tedious to find what i was looking for.

Just go to walmart or wherever, and get GE energy smart daylight bulbs. I just got 2 cfls for 9 bucks:

6500K, 26 watt each, 1610 lumens each. I don't like cfls cuz of the mercury in them. If you break them they can potentially be dangerous.
