Any wire racking will work as it's easy to mount equipment to.
Below is one example...

Is there any advantage of chrome over black (for heat absorption / light reflection)?

Not to resurrect a dead thread or anything, but this is the best plant rack that I've found so far. 6 shelves, super tall and sturdy, 4 feet wide, and relatively affordable.

I look for 24 inch wide shelves. They are more expensive but you can fit a 1020 tray straight in rather than sideways. You can get 4 per shelf instead of 2. That is unless you don't mind them hanging off of the edge of the shelf.

Here's the rack I just got after spending forever trying to find a 24" deep one that wasn't astronomically priced. 36" for $70 or 48" for $80, but I didn't have anywhere I could've fit a 48" so 36 it was. I still do 3 trays per shelf, but they do stick out a couple inches which is a shame. The only real option I found that was remotely affordable in 24" depth was something like this, but of course you end up trading the convenient wire shelves for particle board that wouldn't hold up to the moisture. I tried finding some kind of wire paneling that could be dropped in in place of the particle board but couldn't come up with a good affordable solution. I may revisit that eventually, but that's a problem for future me.

Lumber? In this economy? I'm trying to keep costs down here man, not go bankrupt.

...ok fine, so maybe I do feel kinda dumb for not thinking of that myself.

You can get broken pallets for free and reclaim the lumber. That is what I did for all of the plant benches.

This is the one I use:
https://www.amazon.com/Home-Complete-Gr ... B0969NFD4H
Mine was a bit smaller and a bit cheaper (20) but it's not available and this is the same thing but bigger. Surprisingly high quality for the price, I just take the greenhouse cover off.

I like the cover but it's shorter than 48" wide so my old school lights sadly won't fit. :-(

What does your set up look like? What kind of lights do you use?

It's an outdoor setup, so mo lights involved. It's big enough for about 100 plants on all 4 rows, and it's a solid metal build. It's a perfect seed-starter and nepenthes or tropical dew grower in the bottom rack during the summer.
