Orchid myth?

My mom said that orchids take terribly long to adapt to a specific spot and should not be moved somewhere else or they will die. I just recently moved my Onc x Odont. to a shadier spot about 3 feet away. This is a myth, right?

It always depends on the species and genus. What you've got will handle the changes just fine

Orchids can be fussy, but you can move them without them dying. Some just get really unhappy for awhile.

The biggest thing is sunburn and temps but if it just a slight adjustment they should be perfect.

For phals, they do adapt slowly to a change in conditions, but I haven't seen a problem from moving them room to room, or repositioning them.

Definitely Myth. What your mom is probably reflecting on is her experience with 'good' and 'bad' growing spots in her home, not necessarily the ability of specific plants to adapt to novel beneficial locations.
