My Maroon Monster looked much better (than it does now) upon arrival last week. I ordered an older plant, thinking it would stay more full. Is this just part of the dormancy stage?

Yep, that's a dormant flytrap...and a very healthy one at that!

In particular, most of the red-leafed flytraps tend to lose more leaves during the winter. Wait about 3 months and it will be popping with new growth :)

With lows in the teens and highs in the 30s, my assumption is these need to stay inside in the window to get as much sun and warmth as possible? I see differing advice on this topic.

They don't need warmth this time of year, but they always do best with as much sun as possible.

It's best to avoid freezing and frost, though they can survive freezes. If the windowsill gets good direct sunlight, the flytrap can do well there through the winter. But if there are mild days in the 30s, it is best to get it outside from time to time to get it some direct sunlight.

We get great sunlight in the windowsill, but I imagine taking them outside on days in the upper 30s would be easy enough to do.

Thanks, again!
