New pots for my neps

What do you do when you can't find a hanging pot you like? Get the pot you like at Pikes, some chain and s-hooks at Lowes, and voila, hanging baskets. So the base has a saucer that is about 1/2 inch deep. Would that be too much for a nep? Should I just drill a hole in the bottom?

Are the hooks secured to the steps? Or are we taking bets on how long before someone accidentally kicks them off?

I thought the same thing. I moved them to the outside of the railing hanging from a heavy zip tie.

I sure hope the pot is reinforced where you drilled through to attach the chain. Even a lip there may not be enough to stop fatigue from the metal moving against the plastic (from wind or other motions).

Quick fix - Buy some washers, a nipple, washers of the same size, and nuts of the same size (preferably wing on the outside, lock on the inside.

Your setup will be made by drilling a hole and threading in the nipple and cutting it to size with lineman pliers.

Then, put washers on either side, and clamp a nut on the inside (dirt side) of the pot. The wingnut goes on the outside, and tighten until it is snug and finger tight (don't over-tighten plastic or it snaps).

Schematic:

(Standard nut) [Washer] | {Nipple} | [Washer] (Wingnut)

|| bars are the pot.

Hope this helps.

Taking Supercazzola's admonition to heart, I submit to you my next level pot. Landscaping wire coiled and woven to the diameter of the pot. Then three sections of chain joined with an S-hook and crimped to the wire coil. Insert the pot and, voila! Hanging baskets.

Nice job! Those look like they will last a while. I will have to keep this in mind if my net pots ever start sagging. Can you just pop them right out?

Yes, the pots just sit in the ring.
