New Plant

I have a new plant and it's not a Drosera!

I have some wonderful Sarracenia 'excellens' seedlings growing from Heath Bachtel's seeds. But it'll be years before they're big enough to see if one of them will be the ultimate 'excellens' I seek. In the meantime, I ordered and received a large 'excellens' from Carnivorous Plants Nursery. Here are a few photos and a random Akai Ryu flower scape.

Most of the sarracenia 'excellens' I see are too Red for my liking.
My perfect 'excellens' would be more Bronze colored, like the one in Adrian Slack's first book.
That's the plant I'm trying to re-create.

I really like the color contrast of the red tops with windows with the minor style hoods. I even picked up a excellens crossed with rubra from SNW. hope to cross it with minor and excellens to see what i can come up with.

Personally, I think Sarracenia collections blow away Drosera and VTF collections. Although Matt’s VFT is pretty big...

Mike are you finally switching allegian ... Sarracenia

When I was younger an more open-minded, I bought Adrian Slack's first book.
It had a picture of a S. leucophylla x minor cross he grew.
I fell in love with that plant, even though it wasn't a Sundew.

I have a few non-Drosera CP but they're mostly giveaway wins or gifts from people.
They have sentimental value because of where they came from.
Looking at my collection, I have one other Sarr and two Pings that I bought as plants.

All the other plants I bought are Drosera.
I'm a firm believer in Booger Power!
It's highly unlikely that I'll defect from Team Drosera.

I also love Drosera and other sticky ones Mike, though I’ve got my fair share of sarrs, too. One of my favorites is the excellens-esque ‘Judith Hindle’ x minor:

Sarrs are pretty great, but there’s something about a big, glistening collection of sundews that’s very hard to beat.

And I was just thinking about a massive rock display of pings!
