Anyone ever build a mini bog before? Is it in-ground or above-ground? How did you make it?

Above ground mini bog how-to: http://www.world-of-carnivores.com/bog.html

In-ground mini bog how-to: http://www.jamesjonesinstruments.com/fa ... s/bogsite/

Is anyone going to have a bog next year? It sounds like a reasonable project, although perhaps a little pricey to set up.

I'm in zone 6 - I should be able to keep my outdoor plants in the bog over the winter next year if I build one, right?

I'm planning on building at least one bog next year. I'm hoping to do it above ground I think. The dirt here is hard to dig in. I think I'm just going to use 2x6 boards as a frame, some heavy duty plastic lining and fill it with peat and perlite and then with Sarracenia, VFTs and sundews.

I would think so. You might have to do some mulching during the coldest months (December and January), but maybe not. I'm in Zone 7b or 8a, so I can definitely leave them outside with little or no protection. I might cover them with a tarp if I know it's going to freeze hard, but I doubt it will even be necessary.

I want a bog, but first, I don't own any floor outside. I live in an apartment. And number two, I don't even have enough plants to put in a bog, it'll look pretty naked.
