Hi there,

First post - really not sure what to do quite a noobie :(

Love my plant, I would say it's quite healthy so that's why I'm confused.

It's grown long flowers but reading forums I've seen that I should cut them?
Though, I have also read that if the plant is healthy I should keep them?

What do you guys think - to cut or should i let it flower?

Welcome to the forum.

Is the season Fall or Spring where you live, Northern or Southern hemisphere?

Your plant looks great, very healthy. If it's Spring, I think you can let it flower. The plant looks strong enough to take it. If it's Fall, I'd cut the flower stalk so the plant can put its energy into storing up for its oncoming dormancy.

Here is some info on growing FlyTraps. Check it out. You might find some useful information in it. Growing Venus Fly Traps

Good growing,

Hey, Mike

Thanks for your reply - I'm from London so North-Western hemisphere
And it is also the Fall now, so just to confirm, cut the two stalks?

Many thanks :)

Yes, I suggest cutting the flower stalk now, let it go dormant, and see what it does in Spring. VFTs are a temperate plant. Your FlyTrap will live a longer, happier, and healthier life if you let it live in sync with Nature and its rhythms. Most commercially sold VFTs are produced in Tissue Culture laboratories. They often are confused as to what season it is in the real world for the first year, I think.

That's my two cents worth. You might want to wait for corroboration from a FlyTrap expert. I grow a few VFTs but I'm mostly a Drosera guy. Give it a little time and someone more knowledgeable will pop in and offer an opinion.

Good growing,
Mike

I agree with Shadowtski. If it was spring I would say let it flower, but being right now it should be going dormant. Flowering in fall is just a wasted expense of energy, when your plant should be using that energy to get through winter.

If you pot up the flower stalk cuttings, you may end up with a couple more fly traps too. Just another reason to go ahead and cut them off.

Best of luck!

At this point I would just let it finish flowering, it's already expended the energy to grow the scape that tall - might as well get seed from it.
