I want to grow mushrooms for my husband, but I can't make heads or trails of growing without a kit.

Cool! Have you seen the wooden dowels/pegs you can buy that are impregnated with spawn? You drill a hole in a log the size of the dowl (I think it has to be specific species of tree) and knock the dowels into the holes. The mycelium spreads through the wood then sprouts the mushrooms. If I remember rightly they are oyster variety. Obviously it has to be kept in the right conditions but looks awesome when the fruiting bodies are all over the log. Tasty too.

That's awesome! I need to do some mushroom growing too!!

It is almost chanterelle season here in Oregon. As soon as the first rain comes I'll be out in the woods searching. Last year I had an epic haul of chanterelles and Leah and I encountered a wolf during our mushroom expedition. It was one of the most amazing things I've seen in nature and, obviously, a very memorable day :D
