let's talk about nematodes

are they good? bad? do they eat living plant tissue or just dead? just wondering because when I bottom-water my Ceph they end up in the water in the saucer *cringe*
Google isn't much help lol...

What kind of nematodes? Most are invisible to the naked eye. Do you have a picture?

Uh....these are extremely skinny (skinnier than a hair) small white worms. Not fungus gnat larvae though. Unless they are something else? I just assumed those were nematodes lol...

after researching, they are called "pot worms" (but not that kind of pot lol). they are actually beneficial; they eat the same things that fungus gnat larvae eat, except for the roots of the plant. which would explain why I saw 2 of them up on some dead moss tissue on a Ceph division before I freaked out and posted this thread lol. guess they are a normal part of healthy planting medium...
