Seriously, what are those tiny little white puffy fly things that come out of old books in cartoons?

I've now taken the butterwort out of the water. I noticed aphids on my sars though. I sprayed that with the equivalent of orthonex. Here is what the butterwort looks like after being submerged for over a week under water:

No, they're not, because they stick to the lower sections of the leaves. Sure your plant might get some of them, but the aphids will still be feeding on your plant regardless.

I sometimes feed larger aphids to my seedlings :) I just now got an aphid insecticide thrown in when I bought something at Hawaiian Botanicals (Thanks Jack and Jeanie!). You can see what I bought in the grow list section.

Aphids are evil  I have been scrutinizing my plants with a 20X loupe magnifier and killing the little devils with tweezers :x
I also took the time to dress up the plants and pots :)

I wonder though would Pygmy Sundew have chance to get most of the aphids?

Hmmmn, that's interesting...I've never tried aphids on sundews before. Would they stick well? Are they large enought to stick? Maybe I'll try that next time I'm pruning the roses

I have found this on one website.

Quote:
"Feeding: Sundews feed on aphids, and sphagnum gnats, and other soft-shelled insects. Look closely at the leaves and you will see the remains of insects that have been digested by the Sundew. Fertilizing with a 20-20-20 1/4 strength solution once a month is recommend to maintain vigor of the plant."

I was checking out the Venus fly traps and this one looked like it might have aphids on it. I took it into the green house for a closer look

I was able to get a really closeup picture through a 20X loupe of an aphid sucking on a new trap :o

The poor little plant is infested with these critters. There were too many to pick off with tweezers, so I opted to cut off the old taps that were really infested. I will take them to school and look at them under a microscope to try and identify the small white specks. I have a bad feeling that those are insect eggs.

Even the younger growth has specks on it. Maybe I should try submerging this pot in water or even removing the plant and soaking it alone. Any recomendations :?:
