If grown indoors under lights, they're actually not too terribly hard to care for. I've had good luck with them since switching to using the New Zealand Long Fibered Sphagnum.
After a bit of reading I'm going try it outdoors at first, which is my preference, and just bring it in when it get's too close to freezing. Based on what I've read on several forums I think it may do ok in my region. Of course I'll be watching it closely.
In Tallahassee the lowest average RH is around 62% in January, though it can dip lower some afternoons, and is typically over 70% the rest of the year. That's the monthly average based on daily averages. The morning RH is around 90% and drops to the mid 50's by afternoon. We usually get around a 20 degree temp drop at night which should work well for it. Over all it's not quite tepui stats but I think with careful acclimation it can work.
Worst case scenario I have to explain to my wife that instead of getting rid of the unused fish tank I will be turning it into a terrarium.
