I had this guy for a bit and it's my first time growing saracenia. I also noticed the newest pitcher it made is a tad bit narrow compared to the older pitchers, is that normal?ImageImage

It is probably fine. What you will find is that as the temperatures get hotter, flava starts slowing down putting out pitchers. Eventually it will start putting out phyllodia, non-carnivorous leaves, when it is really hot. That means that you have seen the last new trap for the season and it is getting ready for winter dormancy. I'm in zone 7b and my flava have started putting out phyllodia.

Panman is right, now is around the time that S. Flava begin to slow down in terms of putting out pitchers. S. Flava is generally a spring grower, so it should explode in growth next year.

It also looks like your rhizome is planted a bit deep in the soil. I was taught that the rhizome should rise on the soil like a ship on the sea. Ultimately, I don’t know that it matters that much, as over time it’ll grow to the right depth.

What is the dohickey you have at the base of the largest trap?
