Is that a South facing window?
They like light and humidity, so I was wondering if you could bring it outside until the TX heat kicks in?

If you want to get your brothers to respect your plants, you gotta be firm with them. This also means being a tad bit mean. If you show siblings that you mean buisness, they won't mess around with you. Just be careful not to be too scary.
Btw, I agree with Superczzola. Your D. Capensis won't produce dew without sufficient light (it's also looking very frail)... You'll have to bring it outside.
