How wet to repot/plant in sphagnum

Hi everyone,

I'm about to plant some VFT seeds that I grew this summer.
I've got my sphagnum and my pot all ready, but I'm wondering how wet to have the sphagnum when I pot it. It's currently still dried up and compacted.

My current thoughts are thoroughly wet it, then squeeze the water out as I'm grabbing handfuls of it, is this good?

I found it best if I put it in water and squeeze it several times, like using a sponge. Then I let it sit in the water overnight. When I go to use it, I give it a good squeeze so that it is still wet but not dripping.

If they are seedlings and your description of sphagnum is the moss rather than peat, I would have it very wet to ensure the small roots of the seedlings are in contact with the moss and moisture as it is a lot coarser than peat.
Cheers
Steve

Thanks all, now I'm just waiting on some rain to get enough to wet the sphagnum...

Distilled water works (if you can get it).
