How do you send a SASE for the purpose of getting seed or cuttings? I know its a self addressed and stamped envelope in another envelope. But does the size of either envelopes matter? What about packaging material?

The last time I tried to send one out, the envelope was sent back to me saying it didn't meet the weight requirements, which made little sense to me because I've mailed a single Yugioh card to my cousin before with zero issue.

Then once I tried to send out a small manila envelope with some bubble wrap and an envelope only for it to be sent back to me again. This time it said the dimensions did not meet standards.

Postage was fine.

Just send one self-addressed envelope inside another addressed to the person with the seeds... Fold it up.

I've always made out my SASE complete with addresses and stamps, and folded it inside another envelope. Addressed and stamped the exterior envelope. Seal it up, and drop it off. I've never had one returned. You could always go talk to the people at your local post office too. They should be able to tell you the exact reason, and how to fix it.

I've always taken a envelope slightly smaller and placed inside and if i didn't have one smaller I would slightly trim the side and bottom and tape well and I've never had a sase returned to me. I guess if you wanted to, since it seems to be a weight problem for you, you could always throw a spare dime or penny in the envelope.

Padded, puffy, bubble wrap envelopes require higher postage, 90 cents to a dollar, from some post offices. Other post offices charge $2.50 (package rate) for the same envelope. There is a thickness limit of 1/4 inch for normal 1st class letters.

I suggest an everyday #10 business envelope for the outbound and return envelopes. That works 95% of the time. But I have received seed that was crushed in the mailing process. If you want 99.9%, use bubble wrap envelopes for outbound and return envelopes. This will entail a trip to your local post office each time.

One advantage of the $2.50 package shipping is that you get a tracking number. The sender and receiver and follow the envelope as it travels across the country.
