From the last two weeks of March to the 15th of April I was out of town. I left my Nepenthes in the care of a friend giving the instructions I care for them by. In cold weather keep away from the window and water less frequently than in warm weather. When I got back my previously perfect plant was turning dark brown at the bottom of the stem and the leaves got crunchy. It hadn't been too warm in the time I was out of town (Peoria, IL) so I wasn't too worried about under watering. A friend of my with way more experience told me to trim the crunchy leaves and move away from the window. I followed her advice but my plant seems to be doing awful and I don't know what to do. Can anyone help? The small off shoot ones are turning grey at the stem too.

I have no idea what happened with that.

It don't look like frost burn or sun burn, even if it was it wouldn't die quickly like that. I also don't think it was over or under watered, it doesn't look like that either.

What I would do at this point is take care of it as if nothing is wrong with it. It will most likely send up a basal or side shoot.
