Hi everyone,

I have a Drosera Capensis (at least I think it is Drosera capensis, when I bought it, it was without the label, so I cant be 100% sure). Two weeks ago, it lost its dew and now its leaves are slowly starting to dry out. I examine the plant today and found what looks like a mold and possibly spider mites? What should I do? I am new at this, so if anyone can help me I would really appreciate it :) :)

I have include some pictures bellow. The plant is sphagnum moss mixed with perlite, I use only distilled water and the plant gets a lot of sun light every day.

Thanks in advance!

Looking at the first picture, it looks like the leaves are starting to yellow, and I don't think your variant is D.Capensis "Alba'. According to GrowSundews.com, this is normally a result of heat stress. Is the plant producing any dew? If not, you may need to supplement more lighting.

Thanks for quick answer! About 7-9 hours of direct sunlight a day. About spider mites - I noticed a small web like structures and small yellow dots on it...I tried to take a picture but it is just too small :/

Thanks for your answer! There is almost no dew. I will use artificial lighting and wait one week... I hope this solves my problem :)

Hi. Wait, before you do artificial lighting, how old is your cape? Has it undergone some acclimatization since you got them? How is humidity and temperature?

Based on experience, my capes lose their dew if the weather is to hot and dry. Also, when they first came, they do not produce any dew in first 2 weeks, even of they came with plenty of dew. Most likely they would be adjusting.

As some people had given me tips before, slowly increase the sun exposure. Add about 2 hours or so everyday. Adjust it if you notice that the plant is not responding really well. My aliciae got sunburnt by exposing it from 0 sunlight (supermarket settings) to full 7 hours.

If the crown or the buds haven‘t turned black or dead, then they will get better soon. If there are dead plants within the cluster, might as well repot them. The dead ones may harbor mold growth that can affect the healthy ones too.

Good luck and happy growing!
