Hello all,

I have had these nonstop problems with my D. Adelae that pretty much prevents it from maturing.
I got it from @Staats+17+ wayy back in late May as a bigger seedling. It hasn't grown an inch since I got it, even though I feed it once or twice a month...

It also keeps dying off and producing 1-2 new plantlets from the roots which then mature as big as the parent plant got and ultimately die off and do the exact same thing. It's been doing this for the last 5 months I've had it and I can't seem to fix it.

I kept it in a ziploc bag for a while before ultimately acclimating it to 50 percent indoor humidity. It has been doing like crap since then, blackened growth and wilting.
I keep it at the moistness you grow Flytraps in, and it is growing in live sphagnum. Pic below.

I potted mine in LFSM and put it in a west facing window. I just water it and its filling the pot and sending out root with new plants from under the pot. Two weeks ago I snapped three heads off no root and just poked a holes and tucked them in some small pots of peat and they look great. They seem pretty hardy.

I'm not sure how well adelae handles being fed (or what/how you're feeding it), and I've never bothered to feed mine, but my prolifera absolutely hated being given a drop of Maxsea on a leaf at least. Outside of that, maybe try a different media? My "Giant" has been all gas and no brakes in the standard peat/perlite mix and from 100% down to room humidity, and in like 3 months the main plant has gone from seedling-size to probably around 8" around.

" acclimating it to 50% humidity" I think that's too low for D adelae. Worth trying a biggish clear cover over it (need more airspace than a baggie).

My D adelae suddenly looked slightly unhappy when we had just a few days around 55% humidity. Fine when we got back to normal 65 to 70% humidity. And one plant I put under an inverted clear pot (~90% humidity) looked even happier.

Is your pot standing in a shallow water tray? If not, I'd suggest try that too.

What temperature do you have?

I'll second the humidity. I've tried this one twice. The first one died off when I tried to do relative. My second round I've had two plants grown in an enclosed space and they have grown much better while also staying alive. One started without any roots. I'd like to get them in relative but idk how they'd handle it this time around. I've read they're very temperamental with humidity shifts, especially if it isn't an established plant

@plantnerdjules my temperature is 70-75F... I'll try putting a jar over it this time.

I agree with everyone, humidity is crucial to growing D. Adelae. I lost an old one because it lacked humidity. Now, I grow mine with +80% humidity. Secondly, how much light is your Adelae receiving while indoors? I know my first Adelae did the same thing, it blackened and produced plantlets because of the intense light/heat.

Not to derail this thread at all but now I'm wondering whether the giant form is just more hardy than the typicals. Because I pulled mine out of 90-100% humidity, divided it and put it straight onto the rack with my other drosera at what should be just over room humidity, I'm guessing 50-60% probably, and within 6" of a yescom panel, and it was completely fine within 2-3 days. My one tiny typical seedling I got a year ago did die pretty quickly being kept in room humidity, but I assumed it was just being dramatic because of shock and its small size.

Mine is going through something really similar right now, thanks for the thread! It did this once before when it was hot and sunny and recovered after being moved to a cooler place farther from the lights, but now it's struggling again. I'll try increasing the humidity.
