Heliamphora pollination

I know that the flower is receptive to pollination at a different time than the anthers release pollen. I just can't remember which is first. Is the stigma receptive first, or does the anther produce pollen first?

Is your heli in flower already?

wow, that was fast! Mine really hasn't put out much size yet. I assume you already know you need to act like a bumblebee and "buzz" around to get the pollen out with a tuning fork? Sorry, but I don't know the answer to your question. I'll ask Nancy.

Woke up this morning to my Heliamphora minor putting out what's definitely not a pitcher... How long until it blooms?

I think mine took a month from first seeing the bud until the flower opened. I first saw it on 8/25 and it just opened yesterday. Now I have to figure out how to get pollen from it.

Thanks. What Heliamphora is the one blooming for you?
So there's time for me to prepare and read up. Have you checked the International Carnivorous Plant Society's website yet? I think I remember them having some tips. In the meantime, how long does pollen keep, and would a pollen for seeds exchange work? Like with Nepenthes breeders?

Well, you're not going to get any answers from me. I've only owned a heli for 6 months now. There is a good video here about pollination and he does mention storing the pollen. Mine is a minor x heterodoxa, so I'm not even sure that it will self pollinate, but I'm going to give it a try. I've got the electric toothbrush and collection container ready. Today is day 2 that the flower is open and the first day I hit it with the toothbrush. No pollen yet, but I'll keep trying.

Good luck!
I've had my Heli for a bit over 3 years now and it hasn't bloomed before.

Panman’s evening routine:

Shower
Eat dinner
Brush his plants teeth
Go to bed knowing his plant has clean teeth

I have answers! The stigma is first, then the pollen - thanks Nancy!

And yes it's complicated. Timing is everything

Pollen first
