Heliamphora medium question

Hello everyone,

I have a serious problem with my Heliamphora cultures. I've been using this medium at first: 1/3 MS, full MS vitamins, 25g sucrose, 5,6g of agar/l, 1mg/l PPM. I try to set pH at around 5.5-6. Seeds have germinated but the seedlings were growing extremely poorly and not producing roots at all (the seedling's root tips seemed to turn black after touching the medium?). At some point I've tried experimenting, replating plants into the same medium but with the addition of 1mg BAP-6, then 2mg BAP-6 and 1mg NAA. It seemed that there was a boost in growth but plants definitely looked unhealthy - leaf colour was kind of yellowish to white and still no roots at all for months! After replating everything again into MS medium without any hormones 90% of plants instantly died (leaves started to turn brown after about 48h) in a matter of days.

I'm devastated right now after loosing nearly everything. I grow many Drosera, Byblis and Dionaea in pure MS media mentioned above with great success. They all root well. I wonder why this medium appears to be nearly lethal to my Heliamphora.

Can anybody help me with an advice on a proper medium for Heliamphora? What was wrong with my medium composition? I would greatly appreciate any input. Thank you very much.

If someone finds out what causes my current problems and offers a solution that I can apply and that works for me, I can offer some divisions of unique Heliamphora clones grown with this method, as a token of gratitude.

We are using for heliamphora 1/4 to 1/5 M&S + full vitamins with 30gr/L of sugar and low amount of agar. No hormones.
The plants are growing slowly but I am pleased.
Now i am testing a modification of M&S with 1/4 of majors and full micros + vitamins and 30gr/L of sugar. will share my results with you.

Thank you very much for your input. I don't think using 1/4 or 1/5 MS instead of 1/3 would make much difference here but adding full micronutrients is indeed an interesting approach. I'm looking forward to your results!

I plan on using gellan gum instead of agar in the near future to see if there's any chance that Heliamphora don't appreciate agar - as I said there's something wrong with my plants so that they don't develop roots.

Are your plants rooting well, Eteson?

I think,In vitro heli need not to make them rooting.
If you want,use NAA or 2,4-D 0.2-0.02ppm

Do you just do 1/4 MS basal media, and then have add a full packet of vitamins? Or do you divide both by 1/4?

M&S Salts at 1/4 but full strength of vitamins.
