First time growing this species... are these gemmae ready to come out, or do I need to wait longer? Can I just pluck them out with tweezers?

I usually wait until there is double that before I start harvesting. If you wait until then, you can harvest more at once, and you will be harvesting them a less amount of times.

Ripe gemmae should detach from the plant easily with just a light touch (or may detach on their own with some species.) I'll agree those don't look quite ready yet.

Like nimbulan said, they don’t look quite ready yet, but when they are they’ll easily pop off with a light touch. Be careful though, as the bent back stipules tend to send the gemmae flying all over the place

Remind me, and i can snap a photo of the device i copied to suck the gemmae into a jar, and not have them fly everywhere. I used to be excited with pygmy but now I have had too many of them die without explanation. So i do not care for them much any more.
