Anyone here love mushrooms? It's been wet, hot, and humid in the Midwest ( excellent mushrooming weather ) ! Most of the delectable edibles will be out of season very soon, but the slime mould is in full swing. Enjoy some mushies and share pics of your finds this season!ImageImage

This is on a log from an oak tree cut down perhaps this past May.

Sadly, my wife wants this log chopped up within a week as she is having a party.

I have started getting into looking, but I haven't found anything yet.
However, Matt had to be a jerk and send me pics of bushels of Chanterelles he found two days after I left his place after helping him a little with his greenhouse. He then proceeded to send pics of the cooked results, complete with descriptions of how good they tasted,

I keep a wood pile close for bonfires and finding slime molds close to home. My property butts up to two different state parks, so if I'm not up for a hike I have them to poke around on. This week's finds.

OoO the whole woods were full of chantarelles, but I wasn't brave enough to cook any up this season. I've ran across a few late season flushes here the past few days with the wet weather.

Love mushrooms, but other than ones like morels or white puffballs, don't know enough about IDing to be confident of harvesting any others in the wild.

None of my mushrooms around here are very good looking but here is an interesting one.

I found a pretty one in my yard recently. Unfortunately, so did one of my dogs. Cleaned up loose leavings around the house for three days.

Well my Russian neighbor showed me a mushroom that she had picked out of my yard and had fed a bunch to her husband. They love them. I found one and asked another neighbor about them. He is an herbalist and had seen them however he had never eaten any as he had not positively identified them. He was quite excited by the news that a Russian had positively said they were edible. Russians apparently know their mushrooms. He said he was going to stuff a turkey with them. I said do not eat them on my account! These things smell so good when freshly picked I almost ate one! A few more beers and I will no doubt try some. Hopefully I will go to nap before then!

I’ve been debating buying some plugs for some logs in my yard, but it hasn’t happened yet

I would try the plugs Cosmickitty! Fresh mushrooms are really good. Although I tried some plugs a number of years ago and it was a dismal failure.

The most surprising thing about eating this mushroom is the aftertaste. It is very mushroomy, pleasant and persistent.
