Yesterday I was in a flower store and the woman offered me a really good deal on a pitcher plant ($10!). After a bit of research I found that it is a Nepenthes ventrata and the tag says that its from deroose. I read on another site that its good to clip off any pitchers that start to dry out, so I clipped off quite a few. I've read that they like humidity, but at the moment I don't have anywhere to setup a terrarium so I will just be keeping it in my room without any special accommodations. Will that be ok? Is there anything that I need to know about care for this guy? Lemme know what you think!

Also, if the pitchers don't have very much liquid in them should I add distilled water?

Hello and welcome to flytrapcare! Wow, that's a great deal you got on that plant there. It's very large and healthy looking. Congratulations!

N. ventrata are quite easy to grow and should do fine at room temperature and humidity. Just be sure to give it enough light. I think they do best under bright fluorescent lights or a south facing window. I have mine under lights and it seems to be doing fine.

The only time I added water to pitchers, they dried up and turned brown, so I don't do that anymore. You could try it in one and see what happens. Good luck!

Be sure your using Distilled water or Rain water. as tap water contains to many salts an other chemicals that are not healthy for these plants an in time will kill your plant . ;)

You should also mist it this will help bring the humidity up around the plant . Just be sure that when you water your plant that you aren't keeping the media too wet as this will cause root rot an that is Absolutely deadly to your plant.

Hope this helps

If the pitcher is empty...fill it with water...I recomend it or not you are like bringing home a ventrata that is with dry pitchers.Because I got a ventrata from a nursery they poured out the content...stupid people

i would only fill one third of pitcher with distilled water, think matt has the right idea ,try adding water to half of them incase it has bad effects, great plant recon should be fine in bright light but i would be carefull too much direct sun might burn leaves especially if the plant is not used to it

Well if the bottom of the pitcher is still green the plant well still benefit the hydration . even if there is only a teaspoon of distilled water in it .
The pitchers as i said are green (orLive)at the bottom will also have bugs an such left in the an it is still feeding . so I would put some water in each that is still green (or Live) .this will help alot more then you think .trust me ;)
I try not to cut any pitcher off until it is dead(or brown ) half way up the Tendril.
Good Luck .

Thanks for all the help! Should I worry about feeding it at all? I've got some freeze dried blood worms that I give my fish from time to time. Would they work?

Feeding your nepenthes isn't all that important. Like any CP they could got their whole lives without eating. But, mainly it's up too you, just don't over feed them when you do they devolpe brown spots on the pitchers.

Now Could You please Explain This ..... Because If I am Wrong ALL PLANTS an I mean ALL need some sort of food .... an Again If i an Mistaken Didnt these Plants Evolve these Pitchers Sticky dew , movable leaves , an other traps for a reason... YES ..... Because they live an Grow In a Nutrient Poor Soil....... Which Means ?........... They Need Fed ....... Either by natural fertilizer or by Insect .....
