I got this healthy flava 'Red infravarietal'. It has 10 growth points, 6 of which are flowering. Its my first flava and my biggest sarr. How is it flowering while dormant?

It is coming out of dormancy. Flavas will put up their flowers before they start putting up new pitchers. I believe that leucos do that also.

It makes sense. Think about it. You don’t want to eat the bugs and then have none left to pollinate. So you end flowers up first, let the bugs do their thing, and then send pitchers up later so you can eat them

Wow, I never thought about it that way. VFTs and sundews seem maladapted since they eat their own pollinators.

Well, “end up” should be “send up” in my original reply.
But it makes sense to me. Might have read it in Savage Garden or another book. Can’t recall...

This is why flytraps have tall flower stalks. The native bees hit the flowers, but I've never seen any of them get suckered into checking out the traps.
