(ps moss is dead because it's no longer humid, or wet, enough to support it outside)

Just remember, it's working on looking good the rest of the year ;)

I like to think of its sleeping, and digesting all those bugs and using the nutrients to grow bigger traps next year

I hope so! Since I put it outside a couple months ago, it's been doing nothing but catching bugs - it never has a free trap haha.

How does the sphag moss stand up to the cold?

I mean... I find the most important factors are: sustained airflow, proper lighting, very high humidity and higher day temps. By contrast, here's some lovely moss growing alongside my jamban in my enclosure Image

Freezing does not seem to kill it.

I agree. There's a purpurea bog close to my house filled with sphagnum that takes snow and freezing temps. But nonetheless I can't seem to grow it in containers or trays.

My outdoor sphagnum died during the summer, but revived once it started raining a lot.

Yeah, that seems to happen. Idk, I prefer just keeping it on the pots I have in my grow enclosure now.

I can never seem to keep vfts over the winter. They also die or turn to mush. I think I'm keeping em too wet

Idk, I just water em when it gets a little dry. Funny how I can keep helis and cephs alive and thriving but can't get a vft to survive
