Well I finally got to repotting, eh it's a lot of work.

This is my first time repotting and man do some of the soil smell like nasty fart.

Is it because of the gas build up?

Is this any indication of anything I'm doing wrong? Or is this normal?

Thanks!

I think it could be that your soil was kept to wet, or it has been to long since you last changed the soil.

It is the result of gas production (e.g. hydrogen sulfide gas, methane) from anaerobic bacteria in the media. I wouldn't say it is anything out of the ordinary or something to worry about. It is more noticeable to me in plants grown using the tray method with constant standing water. The bacteria doesn't take much time to form colonies in the lower layers of the container, even with new media.

Sorry to bump in, is this also related to humic acid ? Those dark mustard color stuff on the surface of soil especially obvious on tip of perlite and dead sphagnum stem poking out of peat.
