My Phalaenopsis Orchid doesn't look so good. Do you think it's just finishing up flowering? Or dying? it looks like it has some new growth so thats a good sign for me. Any advice helps.

Sincerely,

They flower once a year, so if the flowers are dying now but the rest of the plant looks ok, then it’s probably fine.

Why do you say that? I don't see any problems.

Me, neither. The flowers are obviously dying - which is completely normal. The scar on the stem is from a leaf ripping away - again perfectly normal. (The leaves are stiff and downward pressure can cause them to rip partially or completely from the stem, leaving the corky scar. The plant is used to this. Dried up old leaves leave a similar mark.)

One other thought. If the flowers looked fine on one day and half dead on the next, it might be a cold draft that did them in. It won't hurt the plant in the long run.

Can also be caused by watering with cold water, exposure to gas or other fumes, or getting too dry.

This is the only flower that is left, the rest dries-off.

Why did you post a pic of your dendrobium? Do you think there is something wrong with it?

I know this is an old post but just like to add that some orchids can definitely flower more than once a year my dendrobium is on it's 6th flush in 2 years depends on the environment I think. Also they can sometimes put out new growth and a second flower spike too.
