I bought 10 flytrap seeds from a random seller on Amazon. I planted them and four of them germinated. I bought 20 flytrap seeds from FTS and 16 germinated. The Amazon seeds are about a month or so ahead of the FTS seeds so I'm going to document the Amazon seeds' growth until they die, mature to adult or I get tired of posting. Here we go.

February 8th. 21 days after sowing February 23rd. 1 month. 1 trap leaf. March 4th. 2 trap leaves. March 13th. 3 trap leaves. Fed two of the plants a tiny particle of beta fish pellet. You can see the two top plants each have a closed trap.

An details on the temperature that the seeds were at before they germinated? Just curious if your seeds geminated at that length of time with "room temperature", or if you had more heat.

The seeds were germinated on a cold east facing window sill sitting in about a centimeter of water on a heat mat with a loose fitting hard clear plastic cover. There was condensation on the cover every morning that I tapped on to make the water drop onto the seed mix which kept it moist. The temp under the cover was 75 to 80F.

I forget how utterly adorable baby fly traps are. Makes me want to grow them from seed again. Maybe one day, hehe.

66 days since I sowed them. Four traps each, working on a 5th.

84 days since the seeds were sown. I fed the top two tiny particles of beta fish food. You can see how they are growing faster than the other two. They are still only 1/4 inch wide though. Man these things take a long time to grow. The biggest one has 8 traps.

These are so cute! It's been 2 weeks since I planted mine, I can't wait for them to start showing up!

A little over 2 months since my last post and the baby flytraps have slowed down or even got a little smaller. I have fed them tiny pieces of beta pellets a few times. Maybe I need to feed them more. Under a magnifying glass I can see a few traps have caught gnats on their own. They are still making new traps as you can see on the flytrap on the left. Are these red traps just slow growing compared to other more green traps? What can I do to speed them up?

Red do grow slower, i wouldnt try and artifically speed them up.
Plenty of light and keep watered.

Keep the updates coming, I enjoy this. I am going to try and document my growth this winter when I sow my new batch of seed.

Time for an update. Down to 3 1/2 flytraps. One really seems to be losing ground. Getting worried about these tiny flytraps. They just don't seem to be getting any bigger but they are still putting out new traps. I moved them outside to full sun. Checked them the next day and one of the traps had eyes bigger then its stomach. It caught an ant twice the size of the trap. Hopefully they will start to gain some size before fall. The full sun will probably set them back but I don't have time to acclimate them properly.

Yes the soil is 50/50 peat and perlite, distilled water, sitting in a South facing window sill until yesterday when I put them outside. Lets see what the next month brings.

Today is September 15th. I think I'm down to two flytraps that still have a chance to survive. My baby flytraps have been outside for a month and a half. They have been through two downpours which drenched and partially buried them. Sun up to sun down is down to about 12 hours where I live. This is how they looked on Sep 4th. This is how they look today. I want to skip dormancy and grow them under lights over the winter. The question is, when should I bring them in?
