I've seen people on here with some impressive artificial lighting systems, but that got me curious. Does anyone have a little one bulb and lamp setup (if that's possible) for a nepenthes or sundew and how does that work out in efficiency and cost?

i used foam sheet, lined it with alfoil (aka tin foil) to reflect all light back in at the plants, and used regular twin 4ft fluro with a 7500k tube
everything under it was booming and it retained a little bit of warmth too.

drosera's, young vft's and neps.
i have oregon variety cobra plants, they grew from tiny little tubes (barely even looking like cobra's) to approx 10cm long in one year by leaving them under lights and skipping their first dormancy.
they grew more in that first year than they have in their 2nd year in my shade house

I use pretty much the same as oblivion did. Wanting to get two CFLs for it, so i can pu reflectors on every side. Will probably need a fan inside too tho'.

cheers john, its been a pretty crap 2011 for me, work up n' down (casual, bouncing from one temp job to the next, one of them was arvo shift so i couldnt make the acps meets) + a 4k vet bill before xmas (between both dogs)
the old boy is doing a bit better now.
plants heavily neglected thru 2011, lost a couple of neps, nice sars and a few vfts (always that darn nep gothica! haha) but i repotted nearly all of the carnivores last week, all in indivual 140mm pots now.
why do the mongrel plants always survive but you lose a few of your pure species

forgot about the jan meet, looking forward to feb's though ! its been too long between drinks

OK Glenn sorry to hear this , gald about the dog's though , wow i now the expense with sab !! yer please come to next meeting mate will be good to catch up again
