I got the last trap that I'll be getting for a while. This time it's the cupped trap, it's peculiar indeed ;) just thought I'd show some pictures. Does anyone, who has cupped traps, know why some petioles don't form traps, mine seem to have a few like that anyway?

Alright, thanks Matt, I had a feeling that might have been the case. :)

Wow, how strange! I have seen these guys before - I thought they were really bizarre. :] How good are they at trapping prey? It almost looks like they'd have trouble doing so!

Good work though - I like how the plant has red coming up from base on the leaves, I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Yeah, they definitely aren't as good as most flytraps at catching their own food, though they do catch some.
Aww, that's sad!

I wonder if its a survival mechanism? The plant will put out a leaf to obtain sunlight, but it wont waste the energy to make a complete trap...???? I've seen it happen on a few of my plants. Possibly when they are stressed from a number of things?

I think that the common general belief is that Cupped Trap originated as a tissue culture mutation or weirdity. All that microscopic-level cutting of tissue may have created this Frankenstein-like plant monster. :D

To me, Cupped Traps looks like a Flytrap that, on a microscopic genetic level, is growing upside down and inside out. :)

My own Cupped Traps have caught plenty of flies--enough to keep them very well fed--and despite the fact that they seem just a little less capable than other Flytraps at catching food, they are very vigorous Flytraps and are as healthy and fast growing as any other, unlike some other weird mutations like "Wacky Traps" is reported to be.

Anyway, neat photos of a neat plant!

I think trapping isn't the issue, but making a tight seal is.

Hey there, I've got interesting pictures dealing with the cupped trap. Out of all the traps, this one catches the most, almost like it has fly nip or something XD There really is something cool about this trap to the flies. One seemed like it couldn't wait to be caught as you'll soon see.

After seeing your Cupped Trap I might have to purchase one for myself. Nice looking plants!
