Hi guys,

Unfortunately, some mealy bugs have just made it into my carnivorous plant collection...

I had a look on the forum and it seems like the preferred treatment is acephate - something that I can't seem to find here in Australia. I also noted that growers in Britain etc. also seem to use different pesticides.

My question to Australian members is:

What kinds of pesticide are readily available and effective for treating carnivorous plant pests?

I've tried one that had an active ingredient starting with an "I", but it doesn't seem to be having an effect... apparently I have to repeat the treatment weekly for three weeks, but I was hoping to see SOME difference sooner...

Anyway, your help would be much appreciated. Want these mealy bugs gone, as I have a big order of CP's arriving some time this week.

Cheers,

Owen

Confidor works well for me and does not seem to have a detrimental effect on the plants. It is more economical to buy the concentrate from somewhere like Bunnings and mix your own in a spray bottle.

You will have to really wet your plants to eliminate the mealybugs and repeat the process every 2 weeks until they are gone, pay special attention to the crown of the plants & don't forget to look under the rim of the pots - the little buggers love to hide there too!

Thanks Linton, will give it shot. Someone else on another forum suggested I just burn this batch off and start again... Think I'd rather try the alternative first.
