Ok, so most of us know that anything from Miracle Gro is full of fertilizers, so bad for CP, I'm wondering if anyone knows of any other brands that are also fertilizer full that should be avoided?

Or better yet a list of brands that are trusted :D

I'm working on getting all the stuff together to plant the seeds I'm getting from Steve, and I've heard so many horror stories on here about peat or perelite that needs to be returned that I think it might be helpful to build a list of brands to trust and brands to avoid. I'm just paranoid now ;)

Rule of thumb...If it doesn't say "100% Sphagnum Peat Moss" or 100% of whatever the ingredient is supposed to be, don't buy it.

Ditto. I got some mix from somewhere and there's a lot of wood chips in there. It started the fungus growth I'm battling now.

Although I believe that Schultz perlite is OK (no added ingredients as far as I know). Here in the U.S., Fertilome perlite is also OK.

yeah, the perlite is ok, just the soils and stuff. Most of them have added fertilizer I think.

Hi G,

Image
This is what I use. It is Greensmix 100% Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss from Lowe's.
The Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss, on top, is also from Lowe's but it contains dirt in it so I now use Luster Leaf compressed Long Fiber Sphagnum Moss which you can buy on ebay.

I hope this helps?

Fafard is another good one. That's the brand I use. In fact, that's all I can see from my window in the lab...
